Imagine a Warriors Day Parade with nary an actual warrior in sight!
After witnessing this year’s edition, it’s time to let this anachronistic shit show die as it’s become an absolute embarrassment in its current format.
The parade is largely comprised of poorly dressed legion dinks wearing make believe medals escorting their “colours”, tarted up drill teams, vest wearing motorcycle enthusiasts, noise making synchronized walking civilians wearing old pattern uniforms and assorted marching groups with the most tenuous connections to the military.
Sadly, posers, fakes and embellishers have now become a regular and unwelcome addition to what once was a most meaningful commemoration of service and sacrifice.
Glaringly absent this year, any actual military marching contingents or the the previously well received CAF displays.
The individuals in the upper left images are an imposter (maroon beret) and an embellisher (red beret) both are showcased on our webpage @ the following links.
As for legionnaires, the vast majority are flat faced civvys, lacking even a single day of military service. They need to put their organizational trinkets that are often mistaken for service medals into their pockets while in public and wear them only in their military themed drinking clubs. Marching poorly while wearing ill fitting costumes along with military style headress certainly does not make them warriors… So why are they there?
And, a Taiwanese marching club?
Are the organizers for this event that desperate to fill the ranks that they’ll allow groups lacking any obvious Canadian connection to join in? This parade has been in a slow decline since the late 1960s and it’s long past time for the organizers to pull the plug on it!
Lest we forget.
